To all the fathers: Happy Father's Day! - JUNE 2009

“One day in retrospect the years of struggle
will strike you as the most beautiful.”

- Sigmund Freud

Your Three Keys to Success

Most worthy pursuits require discipline, resourcefulness, and resilience.  Your business, one of your most worthy endeavors, most certainly requires all three of those aspects.

Although daily business dealings may be difficult right now, discipline yourself to make wise business practices. Set aside time to do what needs to be done, even when you don’t want to do it. Part of discipline is consistency. Be consistent in your projects, marketing campaigns, and customer service.  Answer the phone even when you don’t feel like it. Respond to your e-mails whenever you set aside the time to, if not immediately.

Resourcefulness can really help your business grow.  Try to:

  • Do more with less. There are many ways to save money, but do something almost the same as before. Take a look at your budget to see what you can do to keep all the things you need but make them cheaper.
  • Brainstorm on alternative ways to do things.  Try to think outside of the box with everything you do in business, whether it is the way you organize or the need to approach your customer service methods.
  • Consider other ways to advertise. There is always a way to make advertising cheaper.  Instead of running banner ads, consider free methods like social websites or forums where you give you expert advice and a link to your website.

Resilience is the ability to spring back after tough times.  Sound business planning will really help your business to have and maintain resilience.  It is always good business practice to keep a healthy cushion of cash on hand at all times.  And with credit markets being tight, you need to keep what credit reserves you have for real emergencies.

It may take more time to consider, brainstorm, and plan the best route for your business to take.  Discipline, resourcefulness, and resilience can really help your business to maintain strength in the months and years to come.
